Brian and Karen Severson are the fifth generation to have a small family farm in Grundy county Illinois (80 miles south-west of Chicago), where they raise organic grains. Unhappy with the introduction of GMO's and the direction agriculture was heading in the 1990's, Brian started experimenting with organic methods. He has since found himself farming more and more like his grandfathers, growing old better tasting heirloom varieties and more diverse crops including popcorn, various food corns, wheat, oats, peas, soybeans, buckwheat and sunflowers certified organic. Over the years with the addition of more grain cleaning equipment, a stone grist mill, roller mill, etc. the Seversons can not only grow but also clean the grains so they are suitable for consumer use. They process them into various flours, rolled oats, and meals right on the farm. The grain never leaves the farm from the time it's planted through growing, harvest, storage, cleaning, milling, processing and packaging. Seeing the product from start to finish gives them control and insight through the whole process.
